Thursday, September 4th (afternoon): I decided to head from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island and would base my explorations from the capital, Charlottetown. Upon my arrival in Charlottetown, I drove through town to look around and get my bearing. I found a tourist information center that gave me some good information and a local map of the island and they also helped me make accommodations for the next two nights at a motel immediately over the bridge in Stratford. The manager of the motel suggested that I have dinner back in Charlottetown at the Water Prince Shop. I had the lobster dinner with mussels for the appetizer. It was all very good, even though I’m not the biggest fan of mussels. Friday, September 5: I walked around downtown Charlottetown for a couple of hours. I stopped in to Province House, which is known to be the place where the idea of Confederation of the various provinces was breached and gained momentum, the beginning of the country we know as Canada. I watched an informative video there and took a tour of where the politicians met and conferred. From there I walked by the Wharf. There I went by some boutiques with local handicrafts, bought an excellent ice-cream cone and watched a portion of a sporting competition of firemen. The competition was pretty impressive. These men had to wear oxygen masks while they performed various strenuous activities, while racing against the clock. From here I got in my car and went for a drive around P.E.I. I took the Blue Heron Scenic drive that took me around the perimeter of Queens County. It was a very beautiful drive with the rolling hills, farmland, marshes, bogs, coastline and beaches. I pulled over at Cavendish beach and walked on the boardwalk to the beach. The beach has a reddish pink hue. I discovered that the red sedimentary rock had been eroded by the waves over the years and the salt water bleached out much of the red in the sand so that is how these unusual pink toned beaches formed. I had dinner at a Chinese restaurant called Blossoms in downtown Charlottetown. Saturday, September 6: Awoke and cleared out of my motor lodge. I drove directly to Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island to catch the Ferry to Nova Scotia. The views from the Ferry were very beautiful of both P.E.I and Nova Scotia.
